ConcertsHarborne Orchestra gives three concerts each year, one each term. They are given at local venues and have varied programmes. A great audience joined us for a performance of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in 'A' as part of our Winter 2007 programme. Well done Catriona, it sounded lovely! The first concert of 2007 was just before Easter, it had a varied and interesting programme covering Haydn, Bach, Strauss and Gilbert & Sullivan! The summer concert was held on July 13th at St Mary's Bearwood, and despite the driving rain and cool evening everyone really enjoyed it and the music kept everyone warm! The first concert of 2005/06 consisted of a good mix of popular classics, some more recent music, (including the theme from Harry Potter!) and a liberal sprinkling of carols! The Spring programme promised Bach's concerto for Oboe and Violin sourcing its soloists from within the orchestra and the programme concluding with Mozart's Symphony No. 40. The programme for the summer concert was lighter, but still proved to be good fun! The 2004/05 programme, as usual, was also split across three concerts. The Christmas concert included a joint performance with children from Harborne Primary School. The main portion of the Spring concert was the performance of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto - a prospect that orchestra really looked forward to - with soloist Eleanor Robson. There was also a guest appearance by the 12 piece Birmingham Bassoon Choir! In contrast to the Mendelssohn of the Spring concert the first half of the summer term concert had a more light hearted 'adverts' theme and was concluded by Schubert's "Unfinished Symphony". |
