Thoughts from our conductor, John Meadows on the Harborne Orchestra and Camp Hill Girl's School Chamber Choir pre-Easter Concert
The Harborne Orchestra had a successful concert on Friday night, 15th March, in a joint venture with the Chamber Choir from Camp Hill Girl's School.
Sharing the platform with 30 female voices was a lovely experience for us and the hall was a new space for us to play in. The evening presented us with some special moments. The Choir's rendition of the Silver Swan was enchanting whilst the Orchestra gave us some magical moments during The Old Castle, from Mussorgsky's Pictures from an Exhibition.
We had flamboyance from the Brass group and their version of Africa, from the Rock band, Toto, and too in the Bolero from Benjamin Britten's Soirees Musicale for orchestra.
The Choir's ability to move between a warm, expressive sound to one of strength and power was enjoyed throughout the evening and they were well supported by the string section from the orchestra in four pieces from Holst seven part songs op.44.
The final two section's of Mussorgky's masterpiece rounded off the evening in a majestic style and the audience certainly enjoyed their hour of varied entertainment!
Another feather in the cap I feel. Here's to the next one!
